Box-it is pleased to name the Wetwheels Foundation as our official local charity for 2018. Throughout the year, we’ll be taking part in all sorts of activities to show our support for the marvellous work of Wetwheels.
For those unfamiliar with Wetwheels, it is a charity founded by disabled yachtsman, Geoff Holt MBE, which enriches the lives of disabled people by providing fun, safe and stimulating experiences in specially adapted powerboats that can facilitate wheelchairs.
Headquartered in Portsmouth, the Wetwheels Foundation currently operates out of the Solent, the River Hamble and in Jersey. The success of the concept means that two further Wetwheels ‘operators’ are scheduled for launch this year in the South East and Yorkshire.
The water-based trips are designed to be fun, yet provide a ‘sensory’ adventure that is both challenging and confidence-building for those who take part, helping them to gain new skills and explore new interests. All the trips are staffed by experienced specialists and skippers.
Funds raised by Box-it will help to build new specialist powerboats giving more disabled people access to the wonderful water-bound experiences operated by Wetwheels. And on the subject of funds, we are delighted to report that the fundraising has already begun, thanks to the efforts of our Digital Operations team who organised a ‘Name the (Box-it) Bear’ competition in December, raising £71.45 for Wetwheels.
This is just the start; as always with Box-it there’s much more to follow! Anyone wishing to find out more about the Wetwheels Foundation can do so by visiting their website www.wetwheelsfoundation.org. or reading more on our ‘Charity’ page where you can also view a video.
Meanwhile, we will continue to bring you all the latest news about our fundraising activities.
